When we ran this tasting last Christmas it proved so popular that we had to include a new version in this year's calendar.
Christmas holds a special place in many people's hearts. For some it's because of the celebration of Christ's birth. Others treasure the chance for family to get together. But here at Vine & Bine it has to be the sheer number of drinking opportunities it affords that most endears us.
Something to wash down some mince pies - it's drinkies time. That glass of Sherry (or whisky - whatever your family tradition dictates) left on the mantelpiece needs drinking so the kiddies know Santa dropped by. If you need something warming to keep out the winter chill then a wee tipple sounds in order. Cooking the turkey without a revivifying glass of Bucks Fizz to hand? Unthinkable! And Christmas dinner itself definitely demands a bottle or two of something special. The list goes on.
We'll be enjoying a smogasbord of the drinks on our shelves that strike us as being just perfect to feature at some point in your Christmas Day.
What will we be tasting? Fizz, wine, cocktails, after-dinner drinks? Who knows (but yes, yes to all of those), there's only one way to find out.

2025 TASTINGS

Sure, we're a day out but we're sure that Mr Burn's won't mind. We'll be celebrating the birth of the Ayrshire bard by tasting our way through 6 delicious whiskies. Mostly from Scotland but there's always the chance of a tasty outsider or two being slipped in.

There's great wine made made all around the globe, but some winemaking regions stand head and shoulders above the rest in the minds of wine lovers. Much like Beyoncé or Cher these wines often need just a single word to get mouths watering. The likes of Bordeaux, Chablis, and Rioja have had centuries burnishing their reputations but in recent decades they've been joined by newcomers like Argentinean Malbec, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and Barossa Shiraz, to name just a few.
This tasting will focus on the emerging classics, tasting our way through eight different examples of white and red wine styles that have stood the test of time.
Don't worry if you didn't make it to Part 1, these are standalone tastings so this will be just as much fun on its own.

Rioja gives the impression of being a style of wine that has remained unchanged for centuries. One where traditions have been handed down from one generation to the next across the ages. But the truth is that the Rioja we drink today can be traced to mid-ninteenth century aristocratic entrepreneurship.
While they may not shout it from the rooftops Rioja has always had winemakers who have continued to experiment with, and evolve what Rioja is. This tasting will be a chance to explore both the old and new in Rioja, including some of their delicious and underappreciated white and rose wines.
