Nachbil’s Blaufränkisch is a brilliant example of how this grape thrives in the cooler, volcanic‑influenced hills of north‑western Romania. The estate, based in Beltiug (Beltiug/Bildegg) in Satu Mare, has been a quiet pioneer of organic farming and low‑intervention winemaking since the 1990s—long before it became fashionable. Their focus is on purity, texture and vineyard expression, with spontaneous ferments and gentle handling giving the wines a calm, unforced character.

Their Blaufränkisch opens with lifted aromas of black cherry, mulberry and a touch of dried rose, underpinned by subtle pepper and a graphite‑like mineral edge. The palate is medium‑bodied and taut, driven by bright acidity and fine, lightly grippy tannins that frame the fruit without heaviness. Dark berries, sour cherry and a faint herbal twist carry through to a clean, savoury finish. It’s precise, quietly energetic and very much in the Nachbil style—fresh, honest and vineyard‑first.
