Chateau Cantenac 'Selection Madame' St. Emilion Grand Cru / 2020 / 75cl

To the south of Château Figeac and 3.5km west of St Emilion, near the banks of the Dordogne, Château Cantenac dates back to 1832. The Roskam-Brunot family has owned the Château since 1937 and the vineyard has gradually expanded to the present 19 hectares, planted to 75% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Selection Madame is a blend specially selected by Madame Roksam-Brunot, the current owner of the estate.  This Merlot dominated blend (95% Merlot, 5% Cabernets) is particularly elegant.  Its seductive nose has notes of ripe red fruits, balanced by a fine oakiness and delicate spices.  Generous mouthfeel, well balanced, blended with fine and fruity tannins.  Nice, rounded, balanced finish with a lovely expressiveness.

This has a savory character with blueberries and cherries on offer as well as hints of walnut and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with a fresh and crunchy palate, vivid acidity and polished tannins. Chalky finish. Drink or hold. 91 pts.” James Suckling
