Coto de Imaz is the flagship, traditional‑leaning label of El Coto, drawing on older vineyards in Rioja Alta and a long, slow ageing regime that leans heavily into classic Gran Reserva character. The 2019 spent extended time in a mix of American and French oak before further bottle ageing, giving it that polished, savoury maturity even at release while still holding onto the freshness of a cooler, balanced vintage.

The wine opens with poised aromas of dried cherry, redcurrant and plum, layered with cedar, tobacco leaf, vanilla pod and a gentle balsamic lift. The palate is silky and composed, with fine, resolved tannins carrying mellow red fruit, sweet spice and a touch of leather. Acidity remains bright enough to keep the wine lively, and the finish is long, elegant and classically Rioja in its blend of fruit, oak spice and savoury maturity.
