MAAL simply stands for “Malbec As Alfredo Likes”. Up high along the eastern edge of the Andes Mountains is Vistaflores, a tiny appellation within the Uco Valley’s Mendoza region, where winemaker Alfredo Merlo and grower Matias Fraga make their inimitable interpretations of Argentina's most famous grape. It’s all about Malbec for these guys, produced in varying styles and from grapes grown 900-1,350m above sea level. As well as fruit from Vistaflores, they also source small amounts from Luján de Cuyo, Paraje Altamira and elsewhere in the Uco Valley.
The real beauty is in, and she doesn't need makeup. It's simple... the essence of pure Malbec, no makeup that distracts. It doesn't go through wood ageing, and is fermented in old cement vats without adding yeasts or correcting acidity. Its essence is represented by the butterfly within the cocoon, and its beauty can only be appreciated by the one who knows how to look inside.
