Plantagenet 'Lancaster' Mount Barker Shiraz / 2019 / 75cl
Plantagenet has been a cornerstone of Western Australia’s Great Southern since the late 1960s, and the Lancaster bottling draws on some of the region’s oldest Shiraz plantings around Mount Barker. The 2019 shows the estate’s classic cool‑climate stamp: lifted blackberry and mulberry fruit, hints of black pepper and clove, and a subtle earthy savouriness that reflects the area’s granitic soils. There’s a quiet confidence to the aromatics — ripe but never overblown.
On the palate it’s medium‑bodied, structured and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins supporting layers of dark berry, spice and a touch of smoked meat. The acidity is bright enough to keep everything fresh, giving the wine a long, composed finish. It’s a refined, regionally expressive Shiraz that shows why Mount Barker remains one of Australia’s most compelling cool‑climate sites.
