Royal Rioja Crianza / 2019 / 75cl
Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded by Frederick Anglade Saurat, a native of Bordeaux, in 1890, at a time when the French came to the region to replace their vineyards devastated by phylloxera. In 1920, fifteen years after Anglade’s death, the French sold their shares and the winery became wholly Spanish.
This Rioja is made from Tempranillo grapes sourced from the three sub-regions of Rioja; Rioja Alta, Alavesa and Oriental. The wine is matured in American and French oak barrels of medium-toast for a minimum of 14 months, followed by 6 months in bottle. Cherry red in colour with a ruby rim. Red fruit notes with hints of liquorice and a subtle smoky undertone. Fresh and balanced on the palate, with lingering aromas of fruit and spice on the long finish.
