Errazuriz’s Kai is sourced from the estate’s best Carmenere parcels in the Aconcagua Valley, a project originally conceived to show just how refined and site‑driven the variety can be when handled with precision. Low yields, meticulous selection and a long, even ripening season in 2020 give the wine both concentration and poise. The nose is deep and aromatic, opening with black cherry, mulberry and ripe plum, layered with dark cocoa, tobacco leaf and the variety’s characteristic sweet herbal lift. Subtle cedar and baking‑spice notes sit comfortably in the background, adding polish without overwhelming the fruit.

The palate is plush yet controlled, carrying generous dark‑fruit flavours wrapped in fine, velvety tannins. There’s a lovely interplay between richness and freshness, with a thread of acidity keeping the wine lively and preventing any sense of heaviness. Hints of graphite, roasted pepper and savoury spice build through the mid‑palate, leading to a long, composed finish that shows both power and finesse. It’s a confident, beautifully shaped expression of Carmenere that reflects the ambition behind the Kai project.
